"And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me." Mt 25:40 KJV
That's an incredible statement! How we treat others is the same as if doing it to Christ. The representation of Christ is in others. This may perhaps be what Paul is talking about when he says he is under the 'Law of Christ'. "Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill (G378 anapleroo) the law of Christ." Gal 6:2 NIV. The Strong's Word G378 anapleroo - complete, accomplish, fulfill. Likewise in James 2:8 "If you really fulfill (G5055 teleo) the royal law according to the Scripture, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself,” you are doing well." ESV. G5055 teleo - complete, execute, finish, accomplish, perform.
The gospel of the New Testament certainly focused on how we treat one another. What about the Old Testament? The Old Testament contains an abundance of this teaching, "if a man is righteous and does what is just and right— ...7 does not oppress anyone, but restores to the debtor his pledge, commits no robbery, gives his bread to the hungry and covers the naked with a garment, 8 does not lend at interest or take any profit, withholds his hand from injustice, executes true justice between man and man, 9 walks in my statutes, and keeps my rules by acting faithfully—he is righteous; he shall surely live, declares the Lord God." Ezek 18:5, 7-9 ESV
If we think of this in the sense of a global community we would want to lend a helping hand to those who are truly in need. We are talking here about people in the world who cannot buy one kilogram of rice to feed their families, and those who don't have a good water filtering system to drink water they won't get sick from.
In this start up project we want to see faith put into action by helping 'the least of these'. There will be more posts and links to follow with ways to get involved.
